Delivery #2
over 7 years ago – Tue, Jan 31, 2017 at 07:56:49 PM

First top grades on their way!!!

Hello friends! We are delivering this week the first top grades watches. Everyone that will receive them now were already communicated by email and are getting their tracking number shortly. They are all shipped with TNT SwissPost, the courier we have always used and never missed a shipping.

As you all know, we have 24 different SKU’s (Stock Keeping Unit - the product identification unit): 6 models, 2 options for the strap and 2 options for the movement. To make it easier to deliver the watches in backers order we are making all the top grades odd numbers, and all elabore movements even numbers. Besides they will look different in the back, take a look:

So if you got the communication your watch is coming and there’s no description if it’s a top grade or not it’s normal, because from the product number we’ll know it.

Not all models are assembled together; the first units assembled and shipped were elabore models:

ABY: until backer 57
ABO: until backer 130
ABR: until backer 100
SSW: until backer 30

This batch of shipment is of top grades:
ABY: until backer 49
ABO: until backer 141
ABR: until backer 63

So if you have chosen one of these models and are among these numbers, your watch is with you or coming to you. And please, when you receive it share it in any social media and #DWISS. Here is our channels: facebook instagram Send your picture so we can post in our Instagram and comment on the project page, so our friend backers can have an idea.

Last, we are in further delay with the bracelets, and therefore all the watches are being shipped without it. If you want to wait to get your watch with the bracelet please let us know, but this will happen just in the end of March. Working on it…..

Thanks a lot everyone. Cheers!

Production update #2 (delivery #1)
over 7 years ago – Fri, Jan 20, 2017 at 11:09:07 PM

Hello everyone! With 19 days of delay, yesterday we delivered the first watches to the backers who got the special award 4 DWISS M2 VISIT US. They were able to visit the assembling line and got their watches in hands (actually on their wrists).

The day you’re all looking for (get the watches in your wrist) is arriving, but we need to ask your patience once again. We are assembling the watches and we got some issues to solve. First, there are missing parts to assemble the movements to the case; we ordered a 0,4 mm clamps, but we got a 0,2mm clamps, that made it impossible to assemble the movement to the case. Every one tenth of a millimeter is a huge thing in watchmaking. We have already managed to get some clamps for the first assemblings, but we need some more that are arriving.

Some watches will be shipped on Monday. The first models will be the Black ones (ABY, ABO, ABR) with Elabore movement, until the backer number 100. So, if you got these specifications, you’ll get your tracking number soon. If not, we ask your patience please. It’s a continuous work in progress, not all the watches will be shipped together. We got just a few Silver ones (SSB SSW) assembling because some of them need some extra work in the polishing side, so most of them will be delivered after the Black ones. In any case here is the picture from yesterday of the first pieces. (thanks guys for the visit).

We got 6 models, 2 different movements, and 2 different straps per model, so in total we have 24 variations and unique numbers. We are working on it and hope to deliver all watches until the end of February. We are sorry that some backers got 19 days delay, some others will get one month and others two… but again we are working on it .

Note that we are delivering also in accordance with the placement of each backer order. Given that some Black models with Elabore movement were ready first, they will be shipped first following the backers' order. The next shipping will be of some Black watches with Topgrade movement, again in backers' order.

If you need any information please write to us, but keep in mind your backing number please. It’s a continuous work in progress…

Production update #1
over 7 years ago – Wed, Dec 28, 2016 at 09:34:06 PM

Fellow backers,

We are approaching the end of the year (at least in the Gregorian calendar....) and we would like to wish everyone a prosperous and wonderful 2017. We hope everyone is spending some wonderful time with family and loved ones during the holidays.

PRODUCTION UPDATE #1 !!!

We also want to give some feedback about production. We are a little in delay with it and we would like to apologise and thank you for your patience. Delays in crowdfunding happen, even more when the project is so successful as this one you helped bringing to life.

The assembling factory we work with will be in vacation until the 9th January. We had considered using another smaller factory that could work during the holidays to speed up the production, but we chose to delay a little more but work with the same factory we have been working since 2011.

Some backers would like to know how the production process goes, so we are giving here a brief explanation of it for you to have an idea why takes so long.

First we need to build toolings for every part of the watch: the hands, the dials, and the cases. The last one is the most time consuming of all, specially when we have such a complex case. It takes up to two months to build all the toolings.

We also need to buy the movements from the supplier, paying them in advance and receiving the goods usually 6 months later. Given that we have a good partnership with this supplier, we could had it a little earlier, including the top grade movements even in such a tight timing.

Back to the cases, they take the longest time to be produced. After building the tooling, we need to produce all of the separate pieces of the case, and we have 9 different pieces for this timepiece: three parts topring, three parts case body, one case back, and 2 end pieces (that rectangular piece that attaches to the strap). All these parts are put together by 23 screws, so we also need to produce all these screws.

How the case process works? The tolling makes rough pieces (called blanks) that will later get into a CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machine that will give the final shape to these pieces. Every piece is inserted in this machine by hand. After the CNC machine, the finishing begins. In your watch we have: mirror polishing, vertical brushed, circular brushed, and sand blasted finishing. Some of this work is made by hand and others by a machine. This stage takes hours of work, particularly in our case that we have real sharp surfaces. Making a perfect sharp piece requires ability, mastery, and patience.

Ok, now that these pieces are ready, it seems it’s done, right? Not that fast. All the pieces go into a IP (Ion Plating) machine that will give the black colour to your watch (not for every model, so some models can jump this stage). This is made in another factory, so there are some logistics to bring back and forth every single piece of your watch.

Back to the assembling factory, we need to assemble all the parts to build a watch head: 8 pieces are joined together with 14 screws as they look like in the picture below.

After that stage is done, we go into the Emboitage: movement, dial, and hands are put together and cased into the watch head and the case back is closed with 7 screws..

Then we do the water resistance test. Test passed, we assemble the straps, put the watches in the boxes and ship to you.

Looks easy, but we need time and your support to have all done nicely and with quality.
We are working hard to deliver the most innovative watch in crowdfunding history as soon as possible.

 Thanks again for your support.

 A peaceful and fantastic 2017!!!

 Cheers,

Rafael & DWISS team

News, testimonials, some dates and a referral program!
over 7 years ago – Thu, Oct 20, 2016 at 06:51:02 PM

Hello there!

It has been two months that together we funded DWISS M2, it seems like yesterday. We are working hard to make all the extra requests a reality and we are managing to overcome all the challenging issues regarding the leather strap and luminous. So, first of all we would like to introduce a video with both solutions:

We create this sample just to see how the luminous will work on the hands and disc (this colour combination is not available). The minute and second hands will be much more powerful than the hour disc because the disc does not have a channel that can hold too much “superluminova”. See the image to better understand where are the channels in the hands.

Concerning the leather strap

We have found the best way of doing it after a lot of tests. We will have a metal link (same that will be used for the metal bracelet) that can then connect a leather strap. This one is a prototype of a Kevlar strap (you can post your own ideas for the straps if you like). Leather straps will be available later on with different colours and materials. We are now focus on production of the watches.

The design of the rotor

On the left you can see the rotors of the Elabore movements, on the right the TOP grade movement. Hope you guys like it.

Some dates

We received the Elabore movements ordered, and we are waiting to receive the Top grades on the 20th November. The tooling to produce the cases are ready and cases are being treated. After that they will pass trough a CNC machine to be completed and hand polished. Delivery of cases is estimated for the beginning of December. After we receive the cases, we can assemble and test it. We are working hard to deliver your watches as soon as possible. Everything is on schedule. Stay tuned!!!

Finishing the survey with a new option!
over 7 years ago – Tue, Sep 20, 2016 at 10:34:33 PM

Hey backers! We are glad to share some updates and provide you with a new model option.

MODELS: We are running out of some models already (pretty cool isn’t it?), and we will introduce the model M2 ABO, the second most voted model in our survey. We feel that’s right to first offer it to the backers who made this happen. YOU!!!

The survey will close on the 30th September, so if you decide to make any change just go to https://dwiss.backerkit.com/ and change anything you want. Note that the new model (M2 ABO) will be delivered in the same date as the other ones. You can add this model as an add-on, you can change your pledge for this models, or you can just stay with the models you already chose. Here’s a picture of DWISS M2 ABO:

MOVEMENTS: Elabore movement and the Top grade movement. Besides been more precise the top grade is also more beautiful, fully decorated and with blue screws, “cote de Genève” and “Perlage” finishings. The movement upgrade can be added as an add-on (as most of you did it)!

LEATHER STRAP: The leather strap is on progress, but it is not easy to be done. You can see from the picture that we got a leather strap without a metal insert on the end piece, so it is not looking as we expected. That means we need to build a tooling to create a metal insert and then build the leather strap over it. Take a look at the rendering (is not the final design yet...). We are working on it, but it will take some time.

PREVIOUS MODELS: We remember that all backers who pledge for at least one watch into the campaign have an exclusive deal for any previous DWISS models available. The delivery of this watches will be next month. See what we still have here:

For the backers who didn’t reply, please go to the same link https://dwiss.backerkit.com/ and choose your models. If you have any problems dealing with the survey, please send us a private message.
